Blood Sorcery Learning and Adjustments

Learning Blood Sorcery

Mawla Requirements:

When learning Blood Sorcery discipline powers, your character must have a mawla with access to and at least the same Blood Sorcery level as they are trying to teach, although that mawla does not have to know the power that your character is trying to learn.

With a player character is acting as the mawla, you take their Blood Sorcery level into account. For an SPC mawla it is as follows:

1 Dot Mawla – Equivalent to Blood Sorcery 2

2 Dot Mawla – Equivalent to Blood Sorcery 4

3 Dot Mawla – Equivalent to Blood Sorcery 5

Learning Time & Process:

Learning Blood Sorcery Discipline dots requires the same amount of time as the equivalent ritual, as shown below:

Level 1: 2 IRL days

Level 2: 2 IRL weeks

Level 3: 3 IRL weeks

Level 4: 1 IRL month

Level 5: 1.5 IRL months

The training process will require direct teaching from the mawla, either in person or some other method of live contact such as the ritual Communicate with Kindred Sire.

Grimoires, notes, or any other form of recorded training may not be used for Discipline training, only for learning rituals.

Each training roll will be at a difficulty determined by the player and mawla Blood Sorcery levels. Refer to the chart for difficulty, please note that lower dot mawali cannot teach Blood Sorcery 5.

What to Roll

The rolls for learning the disciplines are as follows :

Levels 1-3 may use either Intelligence+Occult, Intelligence+Blood Sorcery Level or the Power’s Pool.

Levels 4-5 use Intelligence+Blood Sorcery Level or the Power’s Pool

The roll for learning rituals is: Intelligence + Occult

Difficulty for Learning Rituals
Difficulty = Ritual Level + 1

Haven Warding

Haven Warding Merit

To increase dots in the Haven Ward advantage, the warding itself will need to protect or surround a substantial portion of the haven itself, regardless of the ritual level of the ward. What this means is that if one door has a ward applied, it is not enough to count for an increase to the haven warding merit; but if all doors and windows have that ward applied, one dot of haven ward can be purchased. A warding circle which completely surrounds the property would also count as 1 dot of the warding merit.

Multiple types of ward or warding circles can be placed under these rules; each time, regardless of ritual level of the ward, the increase to the haven merit is only by 1 dot.

Access & Authorization

By default, only the caster of the ward has control over access through the wards. However, any other Kindred with any knowledge of Blood Sorcery (at least 1 dot) can also be given the ability to control access by the caster or any other authorized Kindred at any point.

The process for granting control over the wards requires that the Kindred and the authorized person both contribute 1 Rouse Check of vitae on the property, which will give access to any wards that the authorized person permits.

Exceptions for access without control can be granted to any other person as long as the authorized person has tasted a drop of their blood or vitae at least once before and simply requires the authorized person being on the property to grant exemption to the effects of the ward.

Blood Sorcery Adjustments

Dagon’s Call

Duration: After blood has touched the target the user has up to one IRL Month to use the discipline.

Shape the Sanguine Sacrament

Level 1 (From Winter’s Teeth Issue #3, with edits)

This power is used to manipulate blood or vitae into floating crafted images – whether they’re used to entertain your peers with flashy tricks or to guide flowing rivulets into extremely precise Hermetic sigils.

Cost: Free (one Rouse Check if using own blood)

Dice pools: Dexterity + Blood Sorcery

System: Using a reasonable amount of blood or vitae, the user may influence the very essence of the blood itself, to obey their whims. By making a Dexterity + Blood Sorcery roll at a difficulty, the user may craft the blood into any shape or image they desire. Achievable complexity varies by difficulty – a simple single-word message or a basic shape may only be at Difficulty 2, while a lengthy text or an intricate sculpture may be Difficulty 4 or higher. Failure on this roll means the blood fails to arrange itself properly, remaining formless, or does not respond at all; a Critical Success not only forms the desired image, but negates the need for any further rolls to change its shape for the duration of the scene. Blood shapes and images are always liquid if touched. The user must be in line of sight of their creation, which has a range of 1 metre per level of Blood Sorcery.

Duration: For the remainder of the scene, unless dispelled by the user.

Rituals of Chicago and Milwaukee (Chicago Folios)

Only Camarilla/Pyramid Tremere who come from the Chantry of Chicago or Milwaukee may acquire these rituals. Your character must come from either of these cities by background (and must have spent enough time there to learn them) and their city of provenance will lock which rituals they are allowed to learn (e.g. a Tremere from the Chicago Chantry will not be able to learn the rituals of the Milwaukee Chantry and vice versa).

Learning any of these rituals after character creation requires a pre-existing Mawla of either of these chantries, or a Storyteller-approved reasoning. If your character leaves the Pyramid and/or the Camarilla, access to these rituals and/or their Mawla will be lost.
