Cult Status
Basics of Cult Status
For information regarding Cults in Seattle refer to this page. Generally an ask is required to find the cult as you need a Cult Loresheet to be a part of the cult and to be eligible for said Status. Though you do not need to be a member of the cult to have a negative Cult Status.
Levels of Cult Status
Cult Status is a way for characters to gauge their standing within the cult but this does not use a point system like Clan Status and Faction Status systems. While PCs can’t hold positions of power, they can have lower titles if the cult has such things available and permissible. As an adherent climbs it gets harder with each level, requiring more and usually larger things to be done for the cult. Negative status works the opposite, with Shunned being harder to leave than Suspect. Cult Status is measured across 5 levels, from Shunned (••) to Reputable •••, as outlined below:
| Status | Description | Effects |
|---|---|---|
| (••) Shunned | Negative Status. Taken as a Flaw. Negative to interactions with members of said Cult. SPCs of the Cult will not help. | – 2 when interacting with SPCs and PCs of this cult |
| (•) Suspect | Negative Status. Taken as a Flaw. Negative to interactions with members of said Cult. SPCs of the Cult will not be inclined to help. | – 1 when interacting with SPCs and PCs of this cult |
| Neutral | Neutral Status. Either an outsider who has not offended the cult or an initiate who has not proven themselves to other members. | N/A |
| • Known | Positive Status. Acknowledged by the cult, perhaps a familiar adherent. SPC cult members know their name. Player Characters can learn of known members at cult locations, gatherings, or from Cult SPCs. | Some SPCs may agree to appear briefly in cult-related scenes. |
| •• Respected | Positive Status. Valued member of the cult who every member knows. Leaders trust this Kindred to work in the cult’s interest. | Some SPCs may agree to appear briefly and may even linger in cult-related scenes. |
| ••• Reputable | Positive Status. Cults know who you are and what you’ve done. You are seen as a faithful adherent and devoted to the cause. | Most SPCs may agree to appear briefly and may even linger in cult-related scenes. |
PC Cult Positions
While PCs are still limited in the degree of power they can hold in a cult — specific limitations will be cult-specific, but in general, they cannot be counted among local cult leadership or hold real power over PCs — they can be granted lower-level titles or positions within the cult, as the individual cult’s structure lays out or otherwise permits.
These titles or positions may, depending on the cult, be defined by loresheet levels or by specific achievements/tests; if not taken at CC in bio or loresheet, they may be able to be worked toward in play, using cult-specific extended tests. We only count 5th edition lore for any cult, we do not use titles, names, or rituals that are not in 5th edition printed material. The ST may ask you which book and page number you are finding your information.
How to Get Cult Status
After doing work for those listed in “what can gain status” the Player should open a ticket to show the ST their work with links to the scenes and brief explanations about the scene and the cult importance.
