How Hunting works on server
Hunting on the server can achieved in multiple ways. The most common is to use a single Predator Type (PT) roll from the approved list on this page. The #locations-and-information channel on the server has a list of pinned locations with their hunting difficulties; these are not the only locations in which your character can hunt, but if using a location not pinned, choose a difficulty that is based on the closest ‘set’ location diff. These difficulties adjust based on the wealth and general crowdedness of the area, among other factors such as security, etc.
Another is to plan and implement an entire multi-roll scene in a chosen setting. This latter method, which requires an approved ruling from an ask post, can also be used to induce resonances; see the Hunting Resonances page for details. When hunting at Hunger 4, a character is required to roll a frenzy resistance check (or choose to Ride the Wave and frenzy by choice); the pool for this check is unspent Willpower pool + 1/3 Humanity rating (rounded down). Hunger is not included in this roll, as it is a tracker check; difficulty for taste of blood is 3. If your character frenzies, make an ask post for STs to guide outcomes. It may be possible to temporarily stabilize a victim of frenzy or overfeeding; see Medical Intervention section for details.
Medical Intervention
When a vampire makes a dangerous feed (slaking more than 2 hunger from the same victim; a frenzy feed which leaves huge wounds; a Hecata biting directly, etc), the ST team rolls for the victim’s survival per the mechanics on page 212 of core. The difficulty of this roll is the amount of blood slaked/agg damage the victim has taken. It is possible that the victim will fail this roll, meaning they die on the spot. If they survive the initial roll, medical intervention is required to ensure their continued survival.
A character with dots in the Medicine skill can roll to convert aggravated damage on a victim’s health tracker to superficial damage. (See page 127 of corebook.) The character must succeed in a test of Intelligence + Medicine, with the difficulty equal to the amount of agg damage taken by the patient; this will be amount slaked in the case of a dangerous feed. The maximum amount of agg that can be healed in this fashion is equal to half of the PC’s Medicine rating, rounded up.
This healing, if successful, takes course over the rest of the night and the user must have access to the tools and equipment to make this possible. Stabilizing after a feed may mean transplanting blood, staunching blood loss, stitching wounds, or other similar techniques; but in the majority of feeding cases they would need to still hospitalize the mortal afterward. This can open them to the risk of breaking the Masquerade.
Use this option at your own risk as the mortal may remember your character; or someone else may.
Hunting in Havens
Hunting in Havens is permitted again; the difficulty will be equal to diff 6 minus Haven rating. Remember that any actions and/or negative outcomes can and will impact the location and character up to the destruction and/or loss of the haven and/or associated Merits. Upon Messy Critical/Bestials/Total Fails on hunts in the Haven; make an ask; the scene from there becomes ST-led. Hunting needs to make logical sense to be done in a Haven: calling up someone to their house for a Siren hook-up is logical. But if a Sandman breaks into their own house/haven, they won’t be hunting. Ask before rolling for this if you’re unsure.
Hunting and movement in or from locations
When hunting, it may at times be possible to move a vessel within or away from the location in which they were found, to ensure privacy/security of the hunt. The context of the roll and hunt does matter; for example even though Consensualists can move their vessels, if the hunt is performed in a medical setting, they shouldn’t be able to convince the vessel to leave the clinic.
- These PTs are unable to move their victim within/away from a location once located: Alleycat, Sandman, Bagger, Graverobber, Farmer, Pursuer, Trapdoor, Montero.
- These PTs can move victims within the same channel (excluding character havens or places that are secure for the vampire): Siren, Osiris, Scene Queen, Extortionist, Consensualist, Cleaver.
Hunting Rats/Big Game
Rat Hunting on server has always been the ‘oh shit button’ for characters at high hunger or those who do not want to risk hunting humans during times of high S.I. alert or other similar stress. The #seattle-underground channel on server is assumed to be empty of mortals (humans), making it a good place to hunt; when hunting animals at high hunger in other locations, a failed frenzy check will cause you character to detach from their prey and seek the closest fresh human blood. This is not the case in #seattle-underground; nothing down here but us rodents!
When you hunt during normal weeks in the sewers, your character does not need to roll to escape unless the hunting roll results in a frenzy, messy critical, or bestial fail. If one of the former occurs, to escape the sewers afterward they will need to roll either Wits + Survival at diff 3 or Wits + Awareness at diff 4.
If they fail to get their rats on the first roll, you may have your character make the hunting attempt again, but this time it will be required to roll the ‘escape’ pool after the hunt. After the first failed hunt and each consecutive fail, the escape roll diff goes up by 1.
When characters wish to hunt big game, particularly dangerous predators (the blood of a large predator is required for leveling Animalism and Protean to 4 and 5), they will have to conduct this hunt outside of the city, in the #outside-seattle channel. Big game/predator hunts are, unlike other hunts on server, always directly STed small scenes, rather than consisting of a single Predator Type roll. Make an ask post and an ST will reach out to you to handle this scene for your character, likely in a thread.
Addiction Flaws
If the character has an addiction flaw, they can do a roll before the hunting roll to find the right sort of drugged person. It can be any of these:
- Wits/Resolve+Streetwise (looking in the streets)
- Wits/Resolve+Awareness/Medicine (looking for someone in a club or noticing the signs of the drug)
Predator Type Rolls
Note: For many of these rolls, additional dice may possibly be added by specific applicable skill specs, and bonuses from merits or disciplines (Presence, etc.) These are not specified here however; if you are curious if something can be added, just ask.
This is the finalized list of all allowable single-roll PT approaches for this server; if you wish to use any hunting method not explicitly included among these rolls you will need to write out what pools you would like to use and submit it as an ask. That will be generally 3 rolls to use a replacement, as the single rolls here are used to encompass the entire feeding process of finding suitable prey, catching them, feeding and getting away with it.
Alleycat
- Streetwise + Wits (Roll to find criminals as prey.)*
- Strength + Brawl (Punching someone out or physically restraining them)
- Manipulation + Intimidation (Holding someone up with a gun or other threat, no physical restraint)
- Strength + Intimidation (Threatening body language, no physical restraint)
*Another roll from this list is still needed to actually hunt successfully hunt the criminals once found
Bagger
- Intelligence + Streetwise (Find blood bags)*
- Intelligence + Larceny (stealing blood bags from locked blood banks/hospital storage)*
- Manipulation + Medicine (drawing blood under false pretenses in medical setting)*
*Successful roll vs diff means the player has acquired enough blood bags to slake the current hunger level. An additional bag is acquired for two successes over the diff.
Blood Leech
- No rolls, must work with other player characters to obtain blood
Cleaver
- Charisma + Subterfuge (Being subtle with your charm to your family)
- Manipulation + Subterfuge (Being sneaky with your manipulation to your family)
- Charisma + Persuasion (Being charming and persuasive to your family)
- Manipulation + Persuasion (Using persuasion and manipulation tactics on your family)
Consensualist
- Manipulation + Persuasion (Convincing them to let you have the blood)
- Manipulation + Subterfuge (Lying about it to get the blood)
- Charisma + Persuasion (being charming)
- Manipulation + Medicine (Convincing them to let you draw blood)
- Charisma + Medicine (Convincing them to let you draw blood)
Extortionist
- Charisma + Intimidation (Making the target want to please you… or else)
- Manipulation + Intimidation (Twisting the situation to frighten the target)
- Wits + Intimidation (Using on the fly information to get something)
- Intelligence + Intimidation (Using information to get something)
- Manipulation + Streetwise (Using knowledge of crimes/misdeeds as blackmail)
- Manipulation + Larceny (Slipping past security to obtain blackmail such as an illicit photo and using it against the victim in that scene)
Farmer
- Composure + Animal Ken (attracting animals by pacifying/calming them)
- Wits + Survival (laying traps)
- Dexterity + Athletics (hunting them down physically)
- Composure + Firearms (shooting with gun/bow instead of trapping)
- Dexterity + Stealth (stalking animals without being heard)
- Strength + Animal Ken/Brawl (physically ambushing and fighting them)
Trying to feed on animals or people while the kindred is themselves in animal form (via Shapeshift or Metamorphosis) will use the animal form’s stat blocks. The kindred in animal form may pick any Predator Roll from any Predator Type made available here, within reason (we’ll be hard pressed to see a snake roll via Charisma + Persuasion), and roll the hunt using their form’s corresponding pool.
Graverobber
- Stamina/Resolve + Larceny (Digging up a corpse — Mindless Corpses may assist with teamwork when digging)
- Resolve + Medicine (Searching among the freshly dead for corpses still bearing rancid blood)*
- Intelligence + Occult (Dressing bodies for burial; religious or ritual approach)*
- Intelligence + Medicine (Dressing bodies for burial; scientific/medical approach)*
- Charisma/Manipulation + Insight (Feeding on mourners graveside)
- Intelligence + Larceny (Sneaking into a morgue to steal blood/organs)
Note: A cold corpse can slake up to 3 hunger but should be treated like bagged blood when slake penalties for BP are considered. A body fed on soon before death will slake less; so will bodies drained of blood after death (as in the embalming process, for example) and bodies missing parts or organs.
*These rolls require the character to already have built-in or relatively guaranteed/secure access to large numbers of corpses, as in a job or other connection to a hospital, morgue, funeral home, etc. The roll itself in effect covers the availability of a corpse meeting needed specifications for slaking, rather than providing access to the body itself.
Grim Reaper
When writing this PT, you must use CW: Grim Reaper Hunting and spoiler the roleplay with || bars on each side. Diseases the victim has or the reason for the stay should not be a part of the post, as for comfort of other users. Please be mindful when writing a character feeding in this style.
Disease blood tasting is not used on this server and will not be part of this Predator Type.
Warning: Messy Criticals can easily lead to dangerous feeds or being found; and given the weakened state of the victims, lethal feeds will always very likely kill them.
- Intelligence + Awareness (Searching an area quickly to locate a victim.)
- Intelligence + Medicine (Find victims in a hospital/hospice based on their charts.)
- Resolve + Awareness (Searching an area with a dedication to locate a victim.)
- Resolve + Streetwise (Hitting the streets to find someone on the verge of death.)
Montero
The Retainer from the PT may start Blood Bonded without losing a Humanity.
- Intelligence + Stealth (represents the expert planning of well-trained Retainers.)
- Resolve + Stealth (using a well-practiced plan and patient waiting)
- Charisma + Leadership (Inspire your underlings to catch your victims with their best efforts)
- Intelligence + Leadership (Knowing your underlings best skills and directing them)
Osiris
- Manipulation + Subterfuge (Using manipulation tactics subtly)
- Manipulation + Fame/Leadership (Leveraging role to get the blood)*
- Manipulation + Intimidation (Intimidating followers)
- Intelligence + Occult (Performing a ceremony/ ritual)
- Charisma + Performance (Performing a service/talk)
*Fame can reduce the difficulty, but only if not using fame in the roll/substituting the skill. If fame is used, the fame should relate directly to the group upon which the character is feeding.
Pursuer
- Intelligence + Investigation (to locate and find a victim no one will notice is gone.)
- Stamina + Stealth (for long stalking of unaware urban victims.)
- Resolve + Investigation (finding clues to a viable victim)
- Dexterity + Stealth (Following your victim unseen for a chance to pounce)
- Resolve + Technology (To cyberstalk and hunt down prey)
Sandman
- Dex + Stealth (Breaking in)
- Charisma + Medicine (Drugging someone)
- Dex + Medicine (drugging someone kidnapping style)
- Wits + Medicine (Grabbing drunk, already drugged prey at clubs)
Scene Queen
- Manipulation + Persuasion (Using manipulation and persuasion to acquire blood)
- Manipulation + Fame* (Leveraging your fame in the group to get blood)
- Charisma + Etiquette (Using the group’s etiquette to acquire blood)
- Charisma + Leadership (Using your leadership to acquire blood)
- Wits + Streetwise (Knowing where/how to find/identify your group on the streets)**
*Fame can reduce the difficulty, but only if not using fame in the roll/substituting the skill. If fame is used, the fame should relate directly to the group upon which the character is feeding.
**Another roll from this list is still needed to actually hunt successfully hunt the scene members once found.
Siren
- Charisma + Persuasion (Being charming and persuasive)
- Charisma + Subterfuge (Being charming and faking interest in the target)

*Wits+Awareness+Haven dots is used to navigate the maze of the den itself when a hunt fails, diff equal to 2+level of haven dots.
Organovore Flaw Predator Type Rolls
Due to the nature of this flaw, there are less options to select when hunting as it requires access to a body rather than just a regular living mortal.
- Graverobber: The most common combination with the flaw. All rolls work that entail working with or obtaining a dead body. But the feeding on mourners does not, as they are living. When hunting rolls are connected to a location with regular access to fresh corpses, Organovores can eat the heart to gain resonance provided that they do so within ~2 hours of death.
- Alleycat: This works with Strength+Brawl; however your PC will be killing the victim and staining, as well as needing to deal with a corpse.
- Bagger: Intelligence+Streetwise will work to find organs being sold on the black market, Intelligence+Larceny will work as stealing from a location.
- Extortionist: Works within private morgues or private homes, PC is unable to slake more than 1 hunger from private homes as it is an open casket sort of situation.
- Those that will work, but will end with a dead body and stains are Osiris (Using fame to feed but be warned it could create a bad reputation as fans go missing), Sandman (Breaking and entering with a bloody scene left), Scene Queen (Use fame to feed but be warned people could take notice as others in the subculture go missing), Siren (Using sex as a guile to lure in victims and kill them in the act)
- Those that do not work: Blood Leech and Farmer as they are incompatible with this flaw, Cleaver as PC would dismantle their herd entirely… Consensualist, enough said.
