Due to the politics of SbN and VTM:BL2 we will not be using the full mechanics of Coteries. Instead, we allow character to combine havens and pool advantages for the use of the coterie, such as herd, etc.
This means that one player may own the Haven and another may purchase perks such as a Library or Warding. Please remember that kindred don’t just let strangers move in without getting to know them; this is why there is a restriction on time before you may join up.
Some of the benefits of having a coterie:
- A group of kindred that will back each other in tight situations.
- You can create and form fun storylines to follow
- You can bring storylines for the entire coterie to the Storytellers for them to help you run, such as, for example: killing sires, performing heists, or becoming members of kindred cults.
On this sheet you will list:
Haven [Player1]
Library [Player2]
Etc, etc.
Please remember to also list these exp expenditures in the relevant field on your character’s own sheet as well.
You must communicate with your coterie about what you have and what you’ve spent points on.
It is also important to note that if you lose your coterie Haven, or anything related to that, all players will lose all resources spent into the place. If a player is killed/becomes inactive for a long period of time, the resources they have been putting into the place may either be repurchased by another player or will be confiscated suddenly by the Camarilla.
Coteries on Server
- All coteries must have a minimum of 3 active members. Coteries who do not, due to characters being inactive or leaving, will have two months from the time they dip below 3 to add another member to the group or it will close. At the time of closure, remaining members will be given the chance to purchase tangible coterie-related merits with their own exp to secure them. This might be haven dots, etc.
- In order to form a coterie, the members must have a total of 4 scenes with each other member across at least four weeks of active play. New members can be added at any time at the coterie’s discretion once the coterie is created, without any interaction requirements.
- As long as it is not your first character on the server, you can collaborate with other players to form a new coterie at character creation. This bypasses the usual interaction requirements for coteries formed in play.
- Approved coteries will gain 3 free dots of coterie-applicable Merits/Backgrounds. These will not cost experience but may require tests via #ask-the-st depending on their nature.
- All coteries are required to have a shared haven of some form.
- Merits/Backgrounds that represent tangible things or SPCs can be added as a coterie resource by members- Allies, Herd, Resources, etc. Doing so means that it’s open for the coterie to use, but also to lose.
- Influence, Fame and other less physical Merits/Backgrounds can be gained by the coterie through an #ask-the-st test with a minimum of 3 of the members participating. One person must spend the exp for this. If one or more members of the coterie already have the Advantage being sought, the difficulty of the test will be reduced in some form.
- Coteries can also make use of the Clan Coterie Merits and Coterie advantages as outlined in the Player’s Guide and the server homebrew.
- Should someone leave a coterie, their access to the coterie’s shared Merits/Backgrounds is lost. However, a player can take what they gave to the coterie back when leaving.
- If a member owes a boon but is not fulfilling it, the holder of the boon can call on the coterie to have it honored. This cannot be used to learn Disciplines or receive Discipline training from other members of the coterie.
- Actions of coterie members can negatively affect the entire coterie- status hits, Second Inquisition targets, and victims of brutal attacks are all examples of consequences that can come back to haunt a coterie. Joining a coterie means accepting the good and the bad of the fellow members. In some cases, members may be able to denounce their connection to those who have caused complications, but this means leaving the coterie and all its benefits.
- Coteries can write their scenes in their channel, regardless of the roleplay location, to help create and track their continuing stories. This is only available to members, not friends, partners, etc.
- Characters can be in as many coteries as they wish, provided that they accept the potential social consequences of conflicting loyalties.

Coterie Merits
All Coterie Merits may be purchased at the creation of a coterie, or with an additional member joining when there is no other member of the same clan already apart of it. (Already existing coteries have a month to purchase these merits as of the books release)
During campaigns/Meta-Plot : these merits are available to use for free at the discretion of the ST for when/how and how often. Once the campaign is completed the merits are lost, but the player characters may decide to form a coterie after the end of the campaign and purchase the merits.
