Vampires experiencing Final Death is not a common occurrence in Seattle by Night’s setting; however, this has occurred in the past and can again. STs do not set out to deliberately kill characters and will provide some chances to escape this consequence, including giving a Final Death warning; but if player decisions lead the character down a dangerous path, the outcome remains possible.
Once a player has declared a course of action and has been given a roll and a difficulty, their action will be considered locked in and they will have to follow through to whichever consequences. Players remain responsible for their characters and should take time to think of the consequences of their actions: STs will guide and rule your scenes with rolls, not write them for you.
When player decisions and IC actions are leading toward the probable outcome of a Final Death situation, Storytellers will inform you of this via a formal “Final Death” warning. Once you have received this warning, you should now understand:
- The choices your character has made thus far and are likely to make moving forward are dangerous, and death is likely to occur but not guaranteed; so think carefully about the choices you make from this point onward;
- The character should attempt to use anything they can to escape or otherwise remove themselves from the situation quickly, unless they are giving up and wish to meet their Final Death. Remember to check their sheet carefully for anything that can help them accomplish their escape; and take the time you need to think this over, rather than making hasty decisions. Panic does not serve you well here!
